Are you wondering about the Shake Shack vegan options? This Ultimate Guide will show you exactly which menu items will satisfy your cravings.
Before losing 125 pounds, I enjoyed eating a beef burger and french fries, which I washed down with a large soda and usually followed up with a cookie or two.
Now that I have lost weight and started enjoying a vegan diet, I pay close attention to vegan food offered at restaurants like the fast-food chain Shake Shack.
I know dining out as a vegan can sometimes be challenging, so I am happy to share this vegan guide for those wanting to avoid animal products, limit meat consumption, and learn the Shake Shack vegan options.

Shake Shack Vegan Options
Did you know the Shake Shack restaurant chain gets it’s name from the movie Grease? Yep, just a fun fact that will help you appreciate them in addition to the new plant-based items added to their core menu. It’s not fully vegan yet, but they’re definitely stepping up their game.
Jay Livingston, the Chief Marketing Officer of Shake Shack stated in May 2023, “We take a fine-dining approach to culinary innovation and spent five years testing and refining our new Veggie Shack with our culinary team.”
Shack Shack which has more than 262 locations in the United States, and more than 142 international spots has had several different veggie burger iterations. They now offer a Veggie Shack burger which is made with vegetables like sweet potatoes, carrots, and quinoa at all of its US locations. “It’s packed with garden-variety vegetables and powered by farro and quinoa for a crave-able, substantial bite.” said Jay Livingston
Keep in mind that there could be cross-contamination if you’re a strict vegan, and that bothers you. It’s always a good idea to ask before ordering a vegan meal.
Shake Shack’s website states the following menu items are vegan-friendly options.
If you like Panda Express check out their vegan options.
How to Order Vegan at Shake Shack
Their new veggie burger is a vegan burger, however you will need to make modifications to the Veggie Shack burger. You’ll need to request it without American cheese, crispy onions, or the Shack Sauce, and swap the bun for a lettuce wrap or a gluten-free bun which is a vegan bun.
You can add avocado, cherry peppers, or yummy pickled jalapenos that are offered at select locations.
French Fries
Shake Shack’s fries are a great vegan option as long as you skip the cheese or bacon toppings. The crinkle-cut fries are deliciously crispy on their own, making them a perfect plant-based option. Whether you’re pairing them with a Veggie Shack burger or enjoying them solo, you can rest assured that they fit into a vegan diet when ordered plain.

Made with their creamy NotMilk, a plant-based milk made from pea protein, these vegan treats are deliciously indulgent.

Does Shake Shack have Vegetarian Options
Yes! The fast food chain has offered the shroom burger for several years. It’s a vegetarian burger since it includes dairy and eggs. It consists of a portobello mushroom patty that’s stuffed with melted muenster and cheddar cheeses, then it’s breaded and deep fried. It’s topped with lettuce, tomato, and shack sauce, and served on a toasted potato bun.
Shake Shack also caters to vegetarians with their grilled cheese sandwich, offering a simple meat-free option. You can also sub a veggie patty for the burger patty in any other burger on the menu.
Shake Shack’s Limited Time Menu
Smoky Classic BBQ Fries are being offered for a limited time and they are vegan if you order them with the classic BBQ sauce. These are crispy crinkle cut fries dusted with BBQ seasoning and served with your choice of BBQ sauce. Keep in mind their Carolina Gold BBQ sauce is not vegan.
Some Shake Shack locations are offering a Garden Dog. If interested you might ask the server if your location is offering it. It’s a plant-based alternative to their 100% all-natural Vienna beef hot dogs, however the hot dog bun does contain dairy.
