Are Spring Rolls Healthy?

These Easy Spring Rolls are almost 50% less calories and fat than their crispy spring rolls. They are a great way to eat raw vegetables, especially if you are tired of salads. Plus, the fact that they are about 80 calories each should get them on your grocery shopping list.

Are Spring Rolls Vegan?

Not all spring rolls are vegan, but these spring rolls are. You could add tofu or tempeh for some great added protein. The nice thing about spring rolls is you can use whatever you have on hand. You can use those last bits of broccoli, bell pepper, or rice.  I’ve even made hummus, red bell pepper, cucumber, and kalamata olive spring rolls. Seriously good!

How Do You Store Spring Rolls?

I love this recipe and make extra every time. If you make extra, cover them with a damp paper towel, then wrap them tightly in plastic wrap, and place a layer of parchment paper between each layer of spring rolls to prevent sticking. Store them in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days. Before serving, allow the spring rolls to come to room temperature. The wrapper might become tough, so gently moisten your hands with a bit of water and dampen the vegan wraps. I recommend you eat them within 24 hours for the best taste and texture.

How Many Carbs in Rice Paper Spring Roll?

The number of carbohydrates in a rice paper spring roll can vary depending on its size and ingredients. Generally, a standard-sized roll typically contains around 10-15 grams of carbohydrates per roll. However, this can vary depending on the specific ingredients used, such as vegetable filling, glass noodles, vermicelli noodles, or protein sources.

There are 8 carbs in a spring roll wrapper. The vegetables, noodles, and protein will add additional carbs and calories. These spring rolls have 19 carbs and 80 calories.

Is a Spring Roll Gluten-Free?

These spring rolls are gluten-free. Typical spring rolls can be gluten-free or contain gluten, depending on the ingredients used in the wrapper and filling.

Traditional Vietnamese spring rolls and Thai-style spring roll wrappers are typically made from rice flour, making them naturally gluten-free. However, checking the ingredient list is essential to ensure no wheat flour or other gluten-containing ingredients are added.

Similarly, the filling ingredients can vary. While many spring roll fillings are naturally gluten-free, some may contain soy sauce or other gluten-containing sauces. It’s essential to read ingredient labels carefully or inquire about the ingredients used, especially if you have a gluten intolerance or sensitivity.

If you’re purchasing spring rolls from a restaurant or store, ask about their ingredients and preparation methods to ensure they are gluten-free. Alternatively, you can make these gluten-free spring rolls at home using rice paper wrappers and gluten-free fillings.
