Ingredients

What really makes this high-protein smoothie so special is the peppermint. It’s cool and icy and invigorating. Imagine being kissed by a polar bear, if it were a gentle and sweet polar bear.

We believe in keeping things simple and using whole, healthy ingredients. Our Skinny Peppermint Vanilla Vegan Shake calls for dairy free milk.

You can use soy milk, unsweetened almond milk, coconut milk, rice milk, or oat milk as the non-dairy milk base, depending on your preference. These choices provide a creamy texture without added sugar, making it perfect for a healthy breakfast or a satisfying treat after a good workout.

You can find the full printable recipe card, including ingredient quantities below. But first, here are some explanations of ingredients and steps to help you make this recipe perfect every time.

  • Unsweetened vanilla almond milk – You can use whatever milk you like. If you really want to boost the amount of protein, I suggest using soymilk like this one
  • Plant-based protein powder– Use your favorite, but make sure it’s vegan protein shake powder.
  • Banana – I prefer to use a frozen banana and omit the ice, but if you don’t have one frozen, just peel and add ice.

Pro Tip – Don’t throw away your overripe bananas! Peel them and break them into 2-inch pieces. Put them in a freezer-safe bag and grab a few when you’re ready for a smoothie. It’s an easy way to add flavor and creaminess and a game changer for quick protein shakes.

Tips for your Vegan Protein Shake

I prefer using a frozen banana rather than fresh bananas and skipping the ice for an even creamier shake. I always keep peeled, sliced bananas in my freezer for a quick add-in to my shakes. They give you a great potassium boost and add natural sugars. They also make great dairy free ice cream.

Ripe banana works wonders in adding natural sweetness and thickening the shake to perfection. However, if you need more sweetness you can add a tablespoon of maple syrup.

Remember to only use THERAPEUTIC grade peppermint oil that is approved for internal use. Not all oils are created equal and not all oils are meant to be ingested. If you are in doubt stick with peppermint extract, it’s a good substitute.

You can always omit the peppermint oil or extract and opt for a banana protein shake instead. It won’t be icy cool, but it will be delicious.

If you want additional vanilla flavor, simply add one teaspoon of vanilla extract and enjoy.
