What is Matcha?

Matcha tea is made from finely ground green tea powder that comes from the plant Camellia sinensis. Unlike regular green tea, where you steep green tea leaves and throw them away, matcha uses the entire tea leaf.

That means you’re getting all the nutrients, flavor, and natural compounds from the entire leaf in every sip.

Matcha Health Benefits

  1. Provides Calm, Steady Energy -Because matcha comes from the whole leaf of Camellia sinensis, it provides caffeine along with L-theanine. This combination can give you steady energy and focus without the crash many people feel from coffee.
  2. May Support Metabolism and Weight Loss -Some studies suggest that matcha may help boost metabolism and fat oxidation, which is why it’s often included in wellness routines and weight-loss plans. Because you’re consuming the entire tea leaf, matcha has more nutrients than a cup of regular green tea.

It also contains caffeine, but not usually as much caffeine as a strong cup of coffee, making it a great alternative if you’re trying to cut back.

Choosing the Best Matcha Powder

Not all matcha is the same. Matcha has a slightly earthy taste that can be an acquired taste for some people. Here’s a quick guide when choosing high quality matcha powder for your Matcha Mocktail:

Ceremonial Grade Matcha

  • Made from younger tea leaves
  • Bright green color
  • Smooth flavor for drinking straight matcha

Culinary Grade Matcha

  • Slightly stronger flavor
  • Perfect for matcha recipes, baking, and smoothies

Pro Tip : If your powder looks dull or yellowish, it’s probably not the best matcha powder. High-quality matcha should have a bright green color and a fine powder texture.
