Vegetable Bouillon Powder

Vegetable Bouillon Powder

This vegetable bouillon powder adds incredible flavor to soups, stock and chowders, plus it is quick and easy to make. You can feel good about this healthy bouillon because it is free from chemicals and additives.

I used to unwrap those gold cubes and watch them dissolve in hot water.  Now I know better because those cubes contain hydrogenated oils and Monosodium Glutamate, aka MSG.  MSG can cause all sorts of reactions like headaches, facial pressure, numbness, drowsiness and tingling. If you’ve ever experienced a reaction to MSG you know you want to avoid it.

Read more about MSG HERE

Did you know half of a cube contains 35% of the suggested daily amount of sodium?! Half a cube!

I decided to make my own vegetable bouillon powder that’s free from chemicals and lower in sodium.

Remember to PIN this for later!

What is Nutritional Yeast?

You might hear it called Nooch. It is a deactivated yeast related to brewer’s yeast. It is called Nutritional yeast because of its nutrition. It’s full of B vitamins, folic acid, protein and fiber. It has a nutty, cheesy flavor and its great in soups, on pasta, popcorn or anywhere you would use parmesan. Remember to store it in a dark container or cabinet to maintain the nutrition, but it can be kept for up to two years.

You can find it HERE, in the health food section of your grocery store or possibly in the bulk section. Buying a small amount from the bulk section might be a good idea if you are apprehensive. I bet you will end up loving it and buying more, though.

How do you make vegetable bouillon powder?

You won’t believe how easy it is to make your own and you know everything that is in it.  This bouillon is MSG free, low sodium and will stay fresh in your spice cabinet for several months.

I made the Vegetable Bouillon Powder with only 1 tsp of salt & celery seed & then made the Cauliflower Chowder.
It was delicious, according to the husband of the house. I think the garlic clove load of the cauliflower soup
made the difference in whether the salt was missed. Not sure. I also added a pinch of Cheyenne & the Liq smoke.
    I will make it again.

I’m so glad you liked it Irma! The roasted garlic definitely gives the flavor a boost. I’m glad you liked the Veggie Bouillon, too, and were able to make it even lower in sodium for your needs!

Oh my gosh, I wish I had seen this yesterday when I needed vegetable broth and had none. This looks so easy and I have it all except the yeast to make my own.

It’s so good to make this powder yourself as you are totally right about the daily amount of sodium. Plus, you choose whatever you like to add and give the final taste.

I’ve never used vegetable bouillon. Can it be used interchangeably with chicken bouillon? My husband has off the charts triglyceride levels and we are trying to manage our diets.

You can absolutely use this vegetable bouillon instead of chicken. It’s a great way to help lower your husbands triglycerides.

I love cooking with bouillon. I even use it to cook my potatoes in for mashed potatoes. It just makes everything taste so much better. I’ve never tried making my own but now I’m going to have to try it.

I would love to make some vegetable bouillon powder. I know I have seen the other beef and chicken but I would prefer using vegetable for flavoring in soups and other dishes.

Thanks so much for this recipe…kind of stumble on your platform. I bought vegan bullion ages ago. Then, I couldn’t find it again. Often, I make a veggie broth to use in soups, and other type dishes. But lately I haven’t had time.

I’m adding this to my list of stuff to make myself. I’ve always bought stock cubes but didn’t realise they were so bad for you. I’m looking at ways to reduce salt/sugar and chemicals in the house so this is certainly being added to my list! Thank you.

Awesome to know. Needed a solution to cubes and powder commercially bought. I recently stopped buying them becuse of the use of Palm oil. This is a wonderful way to replace them. Thank you. I will definitely be using this recipe and often. We make soup frequently.

The recipe makes 1 cup of bouillon powder. One tablespoon of powder added to 1 cup of water equals 1 cup of broth. One tablespoon of powder has approximately 446 mg of sodium. If you feel that is more than you want in your diet, you can always change or omit the amount of salt. Enjoy!

Nutritional yeast is a deactivated yeast, but I’m not sure if that makes a difference for you. I don’t know of a substitute ingredient that will work for this recipe.
