Before I lost 125 pounds, I would have dipped chicken nuggets, egg rolls, or jalapeno poppers into this creamy sauce, which was loaded with trans fat, cholesterol, and chemicals.

Now that I have lost weight and “Intentionally Eat,” I eat a vegan diet, so I’m dipping raw vegetables and loving every healthy bite

What to serve with this simple sauce

  • Tortilla Chips: Classic tortilla chips are perfect for dipping into this creamy avocado-cilantro sauce. Their crispy texture complements the smoothness of the sauce.
  • Vegetable Sticks: Serve an assortment of fresh vegetables (my favorite finger foods), such as carrots, jicama, green onions, cucumbers, bell peppers, and celery. These crunchy veggies provide a healthy and refreshing option for dipping.
  • Grilled Vegetable Skewers: Skewers of grilled vegetables like zucchini, bell peppers, mushrooms, and cherry tomatoes would be fantastic dipped into the creamy cilantro sauce, adding extra flavor and variety to your meal.
  • Vegan Enchiladas or Tacos: Serve alongside vegan enchiladas or tacos for dipping or drizzling. The creamy texture and zesty flavor is a great way to complement the savory goodness of Mexican-inspired dishes.
  • Sweet Potato Fries: Crispy baked sweet potato fries pair wonderfully with the creamy cilantro dipping sauce recipe. The sweetness of the fries balances the tanginess of the sauce.
  • Grilled Portobello Mushrooms: One of my favorite ways to serve this dipping sauce recipe is to brush grilled portobello mushrooms with this good sauce for a flavorful twist on a classic side dish. The creamy sauce adds a burst of freshness to the hearty mushrooms.
  • Crispy Baked Tofu Nuggets: Serve alongside crispy tofu nuggets fresh from the air fryer for a protein-packed snack or appetizer. The creamy avocado cilantro sauce provides a delicious dipping option.
  • Salad Dressing: To use the sauce as a salad dressing, thin it out with a bit more water or lime juice until you reach your desired consistency. Drizzle it over a green salad with mixed veggies, beans, and grains for a refreshing and flavorful meal.

These ideas offer various healthy options for enjoying this delicious cilantro dipping sauce, whether as a snack, appetizer, or accompaniment to a main course. The best part is it’s incredibly flavorful and good for you.

How to store this dipping sauce recipe

The best way to store a dipping sauce made from avocado and cilantro depends on how long you plan to keep it and how quickly you intend to consume it. Here’s how you can store it:

  • Short-Term Storage (1-2 Days):
    • Refrigeration: Transfer the dipping sauce to an airtight container. Press a piece of plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the sauce to minimize exposure to air, which can cause the avocado to brown. Seal the container tightly and store it in the refrigerator. Consume the sauce within 1-2 days for the best flavor and texture.
  • Longer-Term Storage (Freezing):
    • You can freeze the sauce if you’d like to store it for longer periods. However, since avocado can change texture when frozen, the sauce may become slightly watery or lose some of its creamy consistency.
    • Portion the sauce into small airtight containers or ice cube trays. Leave a little space at the top to allow for expansion.
    • Seal the containers tightly or cover the ice cube tray with plastic wrap and then aluminum foil.
    • Label the containers with the date and store them in the freezer.
    • When ready to use, thaw the sauce overnight in the refrigerator. Stir gently to reincorporate any separated liquids and adjust the consistency as needed with a little water or lime juice if it’s too thick.
  • Additional Tips:
    • As with any avocado-based sauce, oxidation can cause it to brown over time. Adding extra lime juice or lemon juice to the sauce can help slow this process.
    • If you’re serving the sauce as a salad dressing, consider storing it in a squeeze bottle for easy portioning and serving.
    • Always use clean utensils and avoid double-dipping to prevent contamination and extend the sauce’s shelf life.

Following these storage methods, you can enjoy your avocado and cilantro dipping sauce for longer while maintaining its flavor and quality.

FAQ’s

Can you freeze cilantro leaves?

Yes, you can freeze cilantro leaves, but it’s essential to do it properly to maintain their flavor and texture. Here’s how:

  1. Blanching Method: Start by blanching the cilantro leaves in boiling water for about 10 to 15 seconds, then immediately transfer them to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process. This helps preserve the color and flavor.
  2. Drying: Pat the blanched cilantro leaves dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
  3. Freezing: Once dried, spread the cilantro leaves in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Place the baking sheet in the freezer and allow the leaves to freeze for a few hours or until they’re solid.
  4. Storage: Once frozen, transfer the cilantro leaves to a freezer-safe bag or container. Squeeze out any excess air, seal tightly, and label with the date. Store them in the freezer for up to 6 months.

When you’re ready to use the frozen cilantro leaves, remove the desired amount from the freezer and add them directly to your dish. Frozen cilantro works well in cooked dishes like soups, stews, sauces, and marinades, but it may not retain its fresh texture for garnishes or salads.

How long does cilantro last in the fridge?

Cilantro can typically last in the fridge for about one to two weeks, depending on its freshness when purchased and how it’s stored. Here are some tips to maximize its shelf life:

  • Storage: Remove any bands or ties around the cilantro and place it in a jar or glass with about an inch of water at the bottom, similar to how you would store fresh flowers. Loosely cover the cilantro with a plastic bag and secure it with a rubber band around the jar or glass. Alternatively, you can wrap the cilantro in a damp paper towel and place it in a resealable plastic bag.
  • Temperature: Store the cilantro in the vegetable crisper drawer of your refrigerator, where it’s slightly cooler and less prone to drying out.
  • Moisture: Check the water in the jar or glass regularly and change it if it becomes cloudy. This helps keep the cilantro hydrated and extends its freshness.
  • Check for Spoilage: Periodically inspect the cilantro for any signs of wilting, yellowing, or sliminess. Remove any leaves that have gone bad to prevent them from affecting the rest of the bunch.

By following these tips, you can help extend the shelf life of cilantro in the fridge and ensure that it stays fresh for as long as possible.

Oh this sounds delicious! I never know what to dip a spring roll in because it usually is a peanut sauce like you mentioned, but I don’t like peanuts. I do love cilantro, though, so I’ll have to try this soon.
