I used to love ranch dip, you know the kind in the plastic tub. It was thick and creamy and had tons of calories!

When I weighed nearly 300 lbs , I would dip vegetables in that popular brand and think I was eating healthy because after all, I was eating veggies!  Little did I know then that two tablespoons had 110 calories and 12 grams of fat!

Once I started on my weight loss journey and got serious about counting calories (yes, you have to count calories if you want to lose weight – I simplify it for you in my book HERE), I decided to make my own ranch dressing and make it as healthy as possible.

HOW TO MAKE DAIRY-FREE HEALTHY RANCH DRESSING:

#1: Prep and Measure Your Ingredients – gather ingredients and measure.

#2 Make “Buttermilk” – Pour apple cider vinegar into non-dairy milk, mix and set aside to allow it to “curdle”.

#3 Mix- In a large mason jar or container, place non-dairy yogurt, vegan mayo, and homemade dry ranch seasoning mix and whisk together.

#4 Combine Ingredients -Add “buttermilk” to the ranch mixture and blend. Store in refrigerator and enjoy

VARIATIONS FOR THIS RECIPE

  • add more “buttermilk” or water if you want to save even more calories and/or have a thinner consistency
  • soy milk will “curdle” and become more “buttermilk” like when you add apple cider vinegar, but other non-dairy milks won’t. It doesn’t matter you can enjoy any of them and you will still achieve a flavorful dressing.

This is perfect! I have a very good friend who has a severe dairy allergy, so I am always on the lookout for dairy-free recipes I can make. We’ve talked about doing a veggie platter for something healthy but it needs a dipping sauce. I’ll have to make this for our next get-together.

  2. Ranch is life. In fact, I think I could douse just about everything in a layer of ranch. I will definitely be giving this healthier alternative a try!

  3. Intriguing! I haven’t really had many dairy-free substitutes for yogurt etc since nursing my 2nd, who couldn’t handle me eating dairy. But I have lots of lactose-intolerant and/or vegan friends who would love this!

This dressing looks awesome! I’ve been eating so many more fresh veggies lately and don’t really feel like buying my ranch anymore. I”d rather make it instead. Stumbling across this recipe feels like fate!

  5. I am so glad to read this post today. I have some friends coming over and I will impress them with this delicious dip.

    1. You are right! I have updated the recipe card so that it is more clear. The recipe makes 16 Tablespoons, however, 1 serving is 1 Tablespoon. Thanks for pointing out the confusion.
