There’s something incredibly satisfying about creating all kinds of fun healthy pickings like fresh-cut fruit, crunch veggies, healthy dips, and other delectable treats. It’s not just about taste; it’s a feast for the eyes too, with a colorful array of textures and flavors that delight everyone.

What I adore most is the flexibility it offers. There are no strict rules, and I get to have fun and use all of the little bits of leftovers I have. I can tailor it to suit any occasion, whether it’s a brunch charcuterie board, a savory dip board, a sweet board, or even a healthy Christmas charcuterie board.  

Plus, it’s a conversation starter. Guests can nibble and chat, trying different combinations and discovering flavors they might not have considered before.

If you’re wondering what is a charcuterie board, the term charcuterie  (pronounced char·cu·te·rie –> SHärˈko͞odərē/) is a term derived from French, referring to the art and craft of preparing and assembling an assortment of meats, such as bacon, ham, sausages, and pâtés.

It involves techniques like smoking, salting, fermenting, and aging to enhance the flavor and preservation of meats. In a broader sense, a charcuterie platter also includes a variety of cheeses, fresh fruit, hearty crackers, nuts, and condiments, creating a delightful array of flavors and a variety of textures.

I’m focusing on healthy charcuterie board ideas, so I’m eliminating the traditional charcuterie board additions of cold cuts, meats, and all types of cheese that have dairy. We will focus on healthy foods and create a delicious healthy board.

As a general rule of thumb use the following ingredient amounts to build the perfect board. These are the recommended amounts per guest for an appetizer (double the amounts if serving for dinner):

  • Plant-based Meat – 2 ounces
  • Dairy-free Cheese – 2 ounces
  • Crackers or sliced bread – 4 ounces 
  • Fruits or vegetables – equivalent of 2 whole pieces

These are just a few of my favorite ideas. There are so many great options for an easy appetizer just pick your favorite. Once you have gone to the grocery store and have all of your healthy options, let’s talk about designing the board.

You can also roll soft cheeses in chopped nuts or herbs for texture. If you include spreadable cheeses be sure to add cheese knives to your board.
